About New Discovery

PRINCIPAL DIGITAL DESIGNER-WIRELESS– Cambridge – UK

Tune into the wireless revolution!
Develop of state of the art wireless systems from specification through to detailed component-level design, and eventual hand-over to volume production.

Join hands with the RF Systems Group. The RF Systems Group forms a major part of the Wireless Division and is responsible for delivering radio hardware, IC design and overall wireless system design to clients of the company. In this role the RF Systems Group works very closely with the Wireless DSP and the Software Groups which also exist inside the Wireless Division.

The Wireless Division applies standards-based radio solutions and also develops custom solutions for a wide range of our clients' applications principally in the telecommunications, healthcare, consumer goods and automotive areas. In addition to design services, also develop proprietary intellectual property, which it can license to its clients. Examples include an implantable medical radio architecture, DECT and Bluetooth reference designs.

Recent examples of the wireless design include a cellular radio telemetry system for real-time medical monitoring, a high-quality digital radio link for a professional intercom system, a satellite telephone, a cordless video-telephone system, and an ultrawideband (UWB) IC design in addition to a large number of more conventional applications.
In this role you will be responsible for: Taking a lead role in preparing and working from specifications for digital IC functions, taking the wider view of the product and application requirements and converting them into silicon solutions; Taking a lead role in progressing detailed board level digital circuit design to meet the requirements of a project plan; Defining the most suitable digital system design/architecture to meet a specification; Undertaking the detailed design of digital circuits down to dimensioned component level and guiding and reviewing the layout; Programming XILINX FPGAs to emulate the ASIC designs for lab testing before chip sing-off; Creating production digital test vectors; Working at all times as part of a close-knit multi-disciplinary project team focused on delivering the design solution to our client; Participating in sales meetings with clients to understand their requirements and demonstrate our capability; Preparing and contributing to proposals and quotations; Contributing to the maintenance and development of our CAD systems to enhance our development capability; Defining best practice for digital IC design; Creating novel design solutions that will be of particular interest to our clients; Identifying and pursuing new techniques and circuit solutions for digital IC design to maintain our leading edge capability.
Ideally you should have an appropriate background working for an Electronics Design or IC design or IC fabrication company, you will have experience of sub-micron CMOS technology along with digital design experience covering both FPGA/ASIC and board level circuits. You will have experience of taking a lead role for part of or the whole design process. Experience of sign-off and back-end flow for ASICs, Embedded microprocessor design experience would be valuable, an appreciation of analogue design techniques. A good understanding of analogue design will be considered an advantage but is not mandatory.

We would also like to hear from you if you are familiar with: Synopsys VCS Verilog, Synopsys Design Compiler, Synopsys Tetramax, Mentor FormalPro, Synplicity Synplify Pro, Synplicity Synplify ASIC, Xilinx FPGA Place and Router
